The Abejas (bees) are coming to HdV this summer! On June 14th HdV will launch a reading initiative to help increase child literacy in and around the garden community. The Abejas Youth Literacy Program will be a student support, community program offered through HdV's Hands-On Education Center. Funded through the Napier Initiative and administered by our very own Napier Fellow, Marcy Abejas aims to enrich the lives of children in the area by increasing their literacy skills. By engaging all participating children in individual and group activities centered around the Hands-On Education Center's curriculum (of sustainable communities, Health Eating, Active Living guidelines, and global local impacts) Abejas hopes to increase children's vocabulary, communication/ comprehension skills, and overall self-esteem to ensure their success in the classroom as well as pique their interest in bettering the community surrounding them. The program is FREE and open to all children in the surrounding area. If you would like more information about the program or would like to register your child/ children please join us at our parent information session- Saturday, June 7th at 10 a.m. in the garden or email your questions/ concerns toinfo.huertadelvalle@gmail.com with Abejas in the subject line.
