The month of January has proven to be very productive for HdV especially in designing and further developing the programs we would like to have in our Hands-on Education Center. Over the last couple weeks HdV gardener members and Ontario High School student volunteers have been meeting up on Saturday mornings to help measure out the area, design/draw out different images of what we would like the area to look like, and adding different features that we think would benefit participants. Soon ideas from all the designs will be incorporated into one final image that will be presented to garden members at February’s monthly community meeting. The Hands-on Education area is an exciting project that HdV members are thrilled to start working on! The area will provide garden children with academic tutoring, art and self-expression projects, gardening and healthy eating tips, and so much more!! We hope to start the program in late spring/ early summer by launching a reading initiative that will focus on increasing child literacy, access to reading materials, elevating communication skills, and developing positive self-esteem. Stay tuned because awesome things are happening at the garden this year!!
