Earlier this month HdV had its first monthly community meeting for 2014. Like many months prior the meeting had a large turnout of HdV members and local residents interested in the project. With the garden growing more and more each day and community interest increasing as well we thought it would be a good idea to spend January’s community meeting giving a detailed biography of HdV’s past, present, and (where we hope to take it in the) future. Through a colorful and informative power point presentation administered by our very own, Maria Alonzo meeting participants were able to see how the HdV idea came to be, the struggles we’ve overcome throughout our journey and the progress we continue to make each and every day. As usual, relationship strengthening activities were played and the garden fresh food was delicious. To finish up the evening we had our very first garden movie night showing "El Oro o La Vida"- a documentary that exposes the devastating realities of what happens to communities when the government sells public land to mining companies. The garden families enjoyed the film so much we’re thinking that hosting a regular family movie night might be in our future.
