With Labor Day marking the “unofficial” end of summer everybody at HdV took a moment to look back on the amazing progress and the many, many accomplishments that we’ve had in the garden these last couple of months. After Phase 1 filled up with fifteen family plots HdV opened up Phase 2 offering eleven more family plots to the community. Despite a little trouble with garden pests the family plots are flourishing at the garden with all sorts of fresh and organic fruits and vegetables. We have even seen significant development along our edible borders with chayote, amaranth, and cacti welcoming visitors to the garden. Our hoop house construction was a great community effort that will help our plants for many seasons to come and our compost heaps keep growing and growing. During the summer months we started planting some trees- that hopefully will bring us some much needed shade next summer and we even started digging out some rows in our intensive growing area. After all of this of course we want to send HUGE ‘thanks’ to all of YOU!!! Despite the sweltering heat we had countless volunteers showing up day in and day out helping with all of the projects. The garden looks beautiful and we know we couldn’t have done it without all of your support. Here’s to the greatness that is yet to come!!
