Composting
Huerta del Valle is proud to assist our local businesses and local environment by composting organic food scraps at our farm. 40% of American produce and edible food is wasted each year and normally ends up in landfills where it contributes to greenhouse gasses and global warming. Since 2013 Huerta del Valle has composted over one ton of organic materials from wood-chips, to lawn cuttings, beer mash, to food waste. This material is not only diverted from the landfill, but is also turned into rich organic soil mixtures to grow high density nutritional foods. Good soil = good food.
You can get all the composting experience you need by volunteering to help pick up and process the compost. Click here for more information on volunteering at Huerta del Valle. Join our mailing list (at the bottom of the page) to be notified when when we will be having our next composting workshop. |
